I recently went to the library to submit a photo for their annual photo contest. The theme this year was "Our Vibrant World."
As I thought about which photo to submit, memories from Cinque Terre came flooding back - between taking photos, editing them, and culling my favorites, the images I capture - what I saw - tend to shape my memory of a place most heavily*. Cinque Terre is the epitome of vibrancy - cerulean blue waters, bright umbrellas, summer produce that's dripping in juices and ripening to perfection before your eyes, sun-washed, pastel facades, and refreshing lemon gelato to beat the heat.
*That said, I highly recommend to other photographically-inclined friends what a mentor and counselor once encouraged me to do - savor moments more intentionally when traveling by activating my other senses (smell, sound, taste, touch) so I can experience a place more fully and store up a richer memory of it.
